On Tuesday, the Wildcats revisited Druid Hills MS for the DeKalb County Varsity Championship. The girls successfully defended their County Championship with a 29-41 over rival Lakeside. The girls were led by County Champion Kelly May Sheehan who moved up throughout the race to earn the victory, making it five years in a row that Dunwoody has produced the individual County Champion (Alex Cameron won the previous four!). She was followed closely behind by teammates Ansley Heavern, Samantha Cameron, and Ally Womble, who all placed in the top 10. Teammates Ellie Conoley, Shanel Stewart, and Callie Dill rounded out the Championship squad for the Wildcats. This is the Wildcats' third straight County Championship, and fifth in the past six years (prior to this run, the Wildcats had only won one County Championship, in 1984).
The boys battled valiantly in a competitive field to finish fourth in the County Championship. Great races were turned in by 9th grader Max Marion and Benson Ross. A big thanks to Mr. McFerrin for coming out and cheering on the Wildcats!
Full race results can be found here, and an article about the races can be found here.
After a busy Homecoming week, the Varsity teams headed to Fox Hall Farms Sporting Club in Douglasville on Saturday for the Alexander Asics Invitational. In a race known for producing fast times, the Wildcats delivered with blazing times and great team performances. The girls finished 6th out of 25 teams in the Championship race, led by Ansley Heavern, in a race that saw three Wildcats in the top 20. It was also a pleasant sight to see Ann-Marie Sills race for the first time this season, and she helped the team by being the fifth runner for the team.
The boys produced their gutsiest race of the season in the 5A/6A race. Despite missing their #1 and 2 runners, the Wildcats finished an impressive 9th out of 32 teams, led by Jackson Watson. He was aided by strong races from Jerrett Lupoli and Ben Planer.
The Wildcats were also glad to see Elizabeth and Jennifer Hardister ('14), who came out to cheer for their former teammates. Full race results from Saturday can be found here.
