On Tuesday, the Wildcats traveled to Druid Hills MS for the DeKalb County Varsity Championships. The girls led the way for the entire race in defending their title, winning for the fourth straight year and six out of the last seven years! The Wildcats were led by Ansley Heavern, who took over a minute off her time from last year's County Championships to finish a strong 2nd. She was followed closely behind by teammates Kelly May Sheehan, Samantha Cameron, Callie Dill, Ally Womble, Ann-Marie Sills, and Julia Echols.
The Wildcats placed all 7 runners in the top 11! Seven years ago, the Wildcats had never won a girls County title; on Tuesday, we won our sixth! That speaks to great legacy and tradition that started with Coach Collins and continues with today's team. Great job girls!
The boys then battled to an impressive 6th place finish in a very competitive race (and without several of their regular Varsity runners). The boys saw great races by Jerett Lupoli (huge time improvement from last year), Ethan Herod, and Leighton Chen. For full results, please click here. For an article on the meet, please click here.
On Saturday, the Wildcats traveled to Fox Hall Sporting Club in Douglasville for the Alexander Invitational, a meet on a quick course with great competition. Despite a muddy morning, the Wildcats had a great day as they get ready for the "speed" portion of their season. The Varsity boys challenged themselves by racing in the Championship Division, and finishing in 21st out of 27 of the best teams in the state, including beating Region rival Druid Hills. The boys were led by a blazing time from Sam Mahle, and also saw great races from Jackson Watson and Phineas Haq. The Varsity girls team then toed the line and, with a great pack of runners, finished 4th out of 21 teams, besting their result from last year in the same meet. Great job to both Varsity squads!
The JV teams got a chance to race in the 5A/6A races on Saturday, and did not disappoint. The boys finished 16th out of 28 teams and were led by strong races from Sasha Herod, Michael Lynch, and Paul Weinshenker. The JV girls, racing against a lot of teams top 7, finished 2nd out of 24 teams! They were led by top 20 performances from Julia Echols and Sophia Tarrago, as well as great performances from Olivia Vergura and Ellie Canalichio. This result speaks to the great depth that the girls team has! Overall, it was a great day of racing! Race results can be found here.
