On Tuesday, many of the Wildcats traveled to Druid Hills MS for DeKalb County Meet #2. Many of the athletes who have run both DeKalb County Meets saw a dramatic improvement from their first meet, which shows the hard work that is being put in by the team. In the 3 mile race, the boys were led by strong performances from Jack Holloway, Sam Mothner, and Zach Stetter, while the girls were led by Sydney Holmes, Lydia Fletcher, and Andrea Carrasquilla. The 8th graders got to tackle the 2 mile race, and great finishes were had by Ethan Kaplan and Sarah MacElroy. All race times from Tuesday can be found below:

In the Varsity races, the boys led off the day with great racing in a fast meet. Once again, the boys were led by Jackson Watson, who was helped by a strong race from Brandon Shockley, as the team finished 18th out of 27 teams. The girls placed an impressive 5th out of 23 teams against some of the strongest teams from both Georgia and Florida, and were led by a top 15 race from Ansley Heavern (who ran almost 90 seconds faster than last year's Double Dip...wow!), and a great race from Kelly May Sheehan. As a team, the girls average time was over 1 minute faster than last years meet!
In the JV races, Max Mowrer once again stole the show with a dominating victory against quality competition, winning the race unchallenged by 25 seconds! He was helped by a great race by Phineas Haq, as the boys finished 9th out of 22 teams. The JV girls rose to impressive heights with a tremendous 2nd place team finish to host school Marist, and were led by Julia Echols and Olivia Vergura, who was the all-important fifth runner for the JV Wildcats. Both of these squads performances show great promise for upcoming seasons for the Wildcats!
Not to be outdone, the two co-ed Open races also were highlighted by season-best performances from many runners. In the First Year/9th Grade race, were led by Rosie Coffie and Brian Weinshenker, and in the Open JV Race, the teams were led by Kayleigh Nortje and Ben Planer. All in all, the coaches were extremely pleased with all performances from Double Dip, as well as the great fan support we received from parents and other teammates! Full race results from Double Dip can be found here.
Notes for the Week:
1. We will follow our normal practice schedule this week with one exception; there will be NO Friday morning practice due to the overnight trip that many of the Wildcats are leaving for on Friday afternoon. Those on the trip, we will do our race prep up in Charlotte on Friday afternoon.
2. If you have been invited on the overnight trip, please make sure that you get your payment in by Monday! If you are unable to go, please let Coach Boucher know so that we can invite those that are on the waiting list! We will meet with those going on the trip at the end of practice on Wednesday for a few minutes to go over final trip details.
3. We will likely announce our Championship Season Roster (as well as the race lineup for the Sept. 22nd County Meet) sometime later this week, and will have more information for these athletes at that time. If you don't know what I'm talking about, please refer to the "2015 Policies and Procedures" handout on the XC website under 'Team Info.' This was the same handout distributed in practice and at the Booster Club meeting in mid-August.
Thanks for all of your support on Dunwoody XC!
Go Wildcats!
