On Tuesday, many Wildcat runners participated in DeKalb County Meet #1 at Druid Hills Middle School. The Wildcats were led by Ben Bass and Deuce Hubbard on the boys side, and by Meg Dubsky and Yarden Tsfoni on the girls side. It was the first race ever for many runners, so now that we know what races feel like, we can continue improving! The 8th graders also raced in the two-mile JV race, and the boys were led by John McLoughlin and Matt Beiger, while Chelsea Etheridge and Miranda Rudnicki paced the girls. Great job by all!
On Saturday, the Wildcats traveled close to home by participating in the Wesleyan Invitational, which had a challenging course and competitive field; a great early season test for us. The boys Varsity squad (with many runners competing in their first Varsity race) had a great day, finishing a solid 6th. The boys were led by Jackson Watson and a very solid 2-5 pack, led by Sam Mahle. The girls Varsity team had an equally competitive and rewarding day, placing 5 runners in the top 11 overall to best 6A defending State Champion Northview by 1 point and place 1st in the meet. Callie Dill and Ally Womble in the 4-5 spots were crucial to the team's success, but the entire team was important, as truly "every point mattered!" The coaches' were excited about the promising results from both Varsity teams.
Not to be outdone, the JV squads provided excitement of their own at the Wesleyan Invitational. 8th grader Max Mowrer outpaced the field to win the boys' JV race in a time that would have been very competitive in the Varsity race. He was followed by Andrew Rice and Michael Lynch. Dunwoody made it a clean sweep in the JV races thanks to an awesome day from Kate Marion, who won the girls' JV race, followed closely behind by Emma Sheehan and Ellie Canalichio. The Girls JV team also won the team portion, matching their Varsity teammates!
This was one of our best early season meets ever, and we appreciate all of the teammates and parents who came out to support the team. Full race results for the Wesleyan Invitational can be found here.
This Week:
We will have a normal practice schedule all week and have one meet on the schedule, The Clara Bowl Invitational at Berry College in Rome, GA on Saturday. We will run our top 10 boys and girls at this meet, and the announcement of these rosters (as well as more information on this meet) will follow later this week. Looking ahead, we will NOT have a full team practice on Labor Day next Monday, however we may hold a Varsity practice in the morning (to be determined later this week).
As we enter September and Fall is getting closer, please keep in mind that it is still warm during afternoon practices, and it is important to stay hydrated throughout the day, as well as to eat a good breakfast and lunch before attending practice. This will lead to great practices and improved race results!
Thanks for your continued support, and Go Wildcats!
