On Tuesday, many of the Wildcats participated in their second DeKalb County Meet at Druid Hills MS. Many runners improved upon their times from the first County meet, and are becoming not only runners, but racers! The 3-Mile race was highlighted by great performances from Jonathan Polston and Lauren Caplan, and the 2-Mile race saw excellent performances from Brandon Shockley and Kimberly Amacher. The coaches were especially pleased with the preparation for each race, as well as helping with team gear both before and after the race. Great job Wildcats!
On Wednesday, our Runners of the Week were announced. Congratulations to Brox Labus and Gabe Hoffman on the boys side, and Kelly May Sheehan and Mariah Fuller on the girls side, as well as Rosie Coffie, who was named the 8th grader of the week!
On Friday, a large group headed up to Furman University in Greenville, SC for the Furman XC Classic and the annual cross country overnight trip. Despite some thunderstorms that cancelled our pre-race run on Friday, the Wildcats were not deterred from a great trip with some great racing. The annual tradition of Friday Night Trivia saw "Team America" come away victorious, having to navigate questions about government, science, current events, running trivia, and Dunwoody cross country (and coach!) trivia. Thank you to Don and Shannon Dill for coordinating most of the logistics of the trip, as well as chaperoning the trip.
On Saturday, the Wildcats faced hot and humid conditions at the Furman XC Classic, but came away with some great team and individual performances. The girls team finished 3rd out of 16 teams and took home an award, and were strengthened by a strong 4-5-6 pack of Callie Dill, Ally Womble, and Elayna Harris which made the difference today. The boys team followed with a strong 7th place finish and were also strengthened by a solid pack of their 2-6 runners. Great races were turned in by Benson Ross and Jackson Watson to help the Wildcats to their great finish. The girls JV team was not to be outdone, finishing 4th out of 9 teams, and were led by great races from Sophia Tarrago, Ellie Vergura, and Cassidy Drew. The boys JV team had the toughest racing conditions as the last race, but still had a strong showing, finishing 7th out of 13 teams. Ethan Herod led the charge with a 7th place overall finish, and the team also saw great races from Ben Planer and Davis Apseloff.
