Congratulations to the Dunwoody Wildcats on outstanding performances this weekend at the Lake Guntersville Invitational. After a scenic bus ride through the hills of Chattanooga, the Wildcats scouted out the course Friday evening. Avoiding the armadillo hills, the Wildcats were treated to a beautiful sunset overlooking the lake on their way to the hotel for the evening. After a competitive trivia battle and pasta dinner, the Wildcats nestled into their dens in preparation for the meet the next morning.
A 5:45am wakeup call, a hearty breakfast, and a sunrise over the lake awaited the Wildcats the next morning before heading over to the course to check on the progress of the armadillos during the night. The course was in perfect shape for what was to become a great day of racing. A light breeze from the lake and a dry, packed trail meant fast times were ahead, and the Daddy Long Leg Spiders were ready to race. Thankfully, a fire truck was on site in case the hay bales spontaneously ignited from the speed of the Running Wildcats. In addition, the coaches were treated to express service to the 1 mile mark in the bed of a pickup truck because there was no way we were going to make it there ahead of the runners.
The boys team finished in 3rd place overall with PR's by almost every runner on the team. Ethan A and Michael M led the team followed by Jack W, James R, and Kris C to score for the boys. A special congrats to Ryan B who had the largest PR of the day, and was still racing alongside the girls to cheer them on. The girls team dominated a very strong field finishing the race with an impossibly low team score of 17 points!!! Anna M, Kate B, Lucy N, Cici R, Danielle A, Ahna L, Emma T, Emma P, and Mia W all finished in the top 20 overall!!!!! Makes you wonder if they also somehow found their way onto the pickup truck as well!!!! A special shout out to Gaby L who found herself missing a shoe after the start, and pushed through the competition to finish 85th overall.
The team would like to thank Mr and Mrs Herod, who traveled with the team to chaperone the overnight trip. In addition, along with the Booster club, they did so much work behind the scenes to ensure this trip went perfect in every form and fashion. This trip would not have been possible without their work, and we very much appreciate all you do for DHS XC!!!

The team will practice Mon and Wed at 6am this week; and Tues at 3:40pm - before Fall Break. We will not have team practices over Fall Break. However, runners will be given workouts to complete over the break to ensure that this momentum continues into the Region Championship meet.
GO WILDCATS!!!
