Congratulations to the Wildcat Cross Country Team for outstanding performances this past weekend at the Mizuno Covered Bridge Invitational hosted by Roswell High School. This was a new course for all Wildcats - runners, coaches, and spectators- that brought out the best in everyone. The day started before sunrise as the Wildcats struggled to find each other and set up team camp in near darkness. Near perfect conditions led to the Varsity Girls finishing 3rd and the Varsity Boys finishing 8th in an extremely competitive field. The Varsity Girls were led by Samantha C and Kelly May S, while the Varsity Boys were led by Max M, Jackson W, and Phineas H. The sun rose, the day got hotter, and the Wildcats took on the challenge. The JV girls were led to a 3rd place finish by Ahna L, Julie H, and Ashley A. The day ended with the JV Boys finishing 4th led by Cade L and Brandon S. Thanks to all the student athletes who truly display Wildcat Pride in everything they do. Thanks to all the parents and spectators for their ongoing support of the team. Full results are still being reviewed, but can be found at http://ga.milesplit.com/meets/232037/results/464734/raw#.V9Xj62grLIU .
Our Region Championship was originally scheduled to be held at Garrard Park - one of the main reasons we shifted our schedule this year. However, please note that the Region Championships on October 26th has been moved to Grant Park.
There are no weekday meets this week, so the Wildcats will train the entire week - except Friday. There will be no practice Friday morning due to the overnight trip.
FOR THOSE INVITED STUDENTS GOING ON THE OVERNIGHT TRIP: The bus will leave after 2nd period (11:30am) from the DHS gym. You can leave your bags in Room 1702 during 1st and 2nd period. Please go ahead and speak with your 3rd and 4th period teachers, and make up assignments BEFORE you leave for the trip. You will need to bring a sack lunch to eat on the bus trip to Charlotte - as well as any old 80's movies that you would like to watch on the ride. We should arrive in Charlotte around 4pm - and will go immediately to the course at McAlpine Park. Therefore, please have running shoes and running attire handy that you can change into quickly. We will do race prep at the course along with strides and a group stretch. We will then go to the hotel for dinner, games, and a good night's sleep.
On Saturday morning, a light breakfast of bagels and bananas will be provided. Please be sure to bring your own favorite pre-race meal if you want/need anything else.

Awards immediately follow each race - so we should be back on the bus headed back to school around noon. We will stop along the way to eat lunch - so please bring money for lunch stop and/or meet tshirts. We should arrive back at DHS around 5pm. The coaches are excited to see how we stack up against the best in North Carolina at a very famous McAlpine Park XC Course. If you have any questions or need additional information, please see one of the coaches.
