Congratulations to the Dunwoody High School Cross Country team for placing 7th as a team at the State Championships held Friday in Carrollton, GA. The day started with an early bus ride through the rolling countryside to the race course. Upon arrival, the temperature read 34 degrees in Farenheit, a chilly start to the day, although Coach Cameron reminded us that there was no such thing as cold - just heat leaving the body. Meanwhile, Coach Eliot was in shorts, while we're still trying to count how many layers Coach Jordan had on. Coach Zimmerman brought her snow pants to sled down the hill to the finish! The day quickly heated up as the Wildcats headed to the starting line to race against the best teams in AAAAAA. Despite the heavy rains, the course was in great shape and ready to be tackled by the racers.
Kate B led the team placing 21st overall. She was followed by Anna M (38), Lucy N (48), Cici R (51), Danielle A (63), Emma P (80) and Ahna L (83). A mere 82 seconds separated our first through fifth runner in a true team finish with an average finishing time of 21:19. As the coaches commented, it was truly an outstanding day for all the runners. And they wouldn't have run so fast without all the support of the team cheering them on at every turn. The coaches would like to thank all our runners that made the season one of the best ever. Your dedication and sacrifices to Dunwoody XC have made this program so outstanding. Our senior captains of Anna M, James R, Chelsea E, and Sarah M, along with all of our senior runners, have led with positive inspiration at every practice, meet, and beyond. You will be greatly missed next season. Thanks to all of our parents for your continued support of DHS XC - always being there to help in whatever way is needed to help the program - even when it's last second. And finally, thanks to all of our coaches that truly work a second job everyday to make this program possible. I may be biased, but all of you (runners, parents, and coaches) are truly the best ever in helping all of us enjoy running as a lifelong sport.
We can't wait to celebrate the accomplishments of the season on November 20th at the XC Banquet in the DHS Cafeteria. The Varsity letter list will be posted outside room 1702 on Monday. Please speak with a coach before Friday November 8th if you have any questions. Also, we highly encourage you to grow your athletic strengths through other sports at DHS - swimming, track, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, etc. Whatever it may be, continue to be involved and always do your best in everything you pursue. Until next season....
GO WILDCATS!!!!
