The Running Wildcats traveled to Garrard Park this past weekend to take on the field at the Covered Bridge Invitational. Against many strong teams that they'll face again at the Region Meet, the Wildcats took advantage of ideal racing conditions and a fast course by the river to set many blistering PR's. The girls team finished 3rd overall led by top 20 finishers Anna M and Kate B. 8th Grader Claire S broke the tape winning the entire JV Girls Race! The boys team finished 9th led by Ethan A and Jack W. Thanks to all the parents that came out to support the runners. A special thanks to Coach Jordan's family that made a special appearance to cheer on the Wildcats! Thanks to all the runners for doing so much to make Wildcat Cross Country great! This week, the Wildcats have their normal practice schedule before racing the very challenging Milton Invitational on Sept 14th. The Wildcats can say goodbye to the flat course next to the river, and be ready to take on the hills on Saturday. There are 6 races on Saturday, so every runner that has been actively training at practice will compete this Saturday. Two buses will leave DHS at 6:10am, and return around 1pm. Students must ride the bus to the meet, but can leave with their parents after our final team meeting if needbe.
The first round of invites for the Overnight Trip to the Lake Guntersville Invitational will be passed out on Tuesday at practice. The overnight trip will be October 4th-5th this year and will cost $150. 48 runners are invited on the overnight trip based upon practice attendance, years on the team, and work ethic. We're looking forward to racing new teams outside the state of Georgia and rewarding runners for the dedication to DHS XC.
Please remember to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, stretch, and eat nutritious meals. Keep working hard, and remember that we are training through our races during September. Try to think of 3 positives from every race and 3 areas of improvement. Then use practice to make your strengths stronger and turn your weaknesses into strengths. As always, talk to a coach if you have any questions.
GO WILDCATS!!!
