For the upcoming overnight trip to the Furman Invitational on Friday September 13th, the Cross Country team is in need of a few items for both the bus trip to Furman as well as for during the meet on Saturday morning. Parents with athletes attending are asked to consider whether they could provide any of the items needed on the Sign Up Genius listing at the following link - www.SignUpGenius.com/go/4090D49A9A623A20-furman
The Wildcats had another great week, and are primed for another busy week, with a County Meet on Tuesday and our overnight trip to Furman on Friday and Saturday.
This past Saturday, the Wildcats stayed close to home to participate in the Coach Benson Double Dip Invitational at Marist. The meet featured some of the strongest schools in Georgia, and allowed for runners new and old to get some great experience in a big race environment on a tough, hilly course. The boys Varsity team finished 12th out of 28 teams in a very competitive field, and were led by a 25th place overall finish from Blake Tiede, as well as a great race from Jackson Watson. The girls Varsity squad finished 13th out 24 teams, and strong performances by Shanel Stewart and Emily Cyr highlighted a day where some newer runners got some big race experience. The 8th graders made their presence known in both of the JV races. In the boys JV race, Max Marion led the pace for the Wildcats with a 54th place finish, which also saw great performances from Ethan Herod and Jack Repasky. The girls JV race was led by 8th graders Samantha Cameron and Chloe Thomas, highlighted by Samantha finishing 11th overall! Strong races were also put in by Addison Duke and Emma Nortje. This week, the Wildcats have two races. On Tuesday, the Wildcats will travel to Druid HIlls Middle School for their second DeKalb County Meet. Please see the Participant List for the meet to determine whether your athlete is in the 3 mile race (5:15 PM) or the 2 mile race (5:45 PM). We are running many of the 8th-10th graders in the two mile race to help us determine who will participate in the JV County Championships in early October, which is also a 2 mile race. The list will be posted at practice on Monday, and any runners that have any questions about their race status should speak to the coaches about it at Monday's practice. On Friday, approximately 50 of the Wildcat runners will head to Greenville, SC for the Furman Cross Country Classic on Saturday. The race lineup and more information regarding this race and trip will be discussed briefly after practice on Wednesday. Those going on the trip should plan on missing their 4th period class on Friday, and because of the trip, there will be NO morning practice on Friday. As the weather continues to stay warm, it is very important that our athletes stay hydrated and stretch and ice frequently. Hydration should happen from the moment practice finishes until the next day's practice. As many athletes start to get little aches and pains, please encourage your athletes to ice any sore areas and stretch frequently. Thank you for your support, and Go Wildcats! Marist Double Dip Parking:
Due to Marist construction and very limited parking, they have asked us to please carpool and park off campus; either at Chamblee Middle School or Bubbling Creek Drive (Ashford Dunwoody to Harts Mill to Bubbling Creek Drive). Please be respectful of neighbors, park on the same side of the street, and do not block any driveways. Thanks for your help! If you would like to run in the Peachtree Charter Middle School CV Class Road Race, please find the link for registration on the Links page of this website.

"It was a busy and successful week for the Wildcats, with two races this past week. Just about everyone has at least one race under their belt this season, and now is the time to work hard to improve upon our early season results and accomplish the goals we've set out both individually and as a team for the 2013 season. On Tuesday, most of the Wildcats participated in the first DeKalb County meet at Druid Hills Middle School. Bus delays could not distract the Wildcats from attacking the course, and the boys were led by team captain Owen Firebaugh and Noah Doherty, while the girls first finishers were team captain Brook Joyner and Shanel Stewart. Congratulations to the many Wildcats who completed their first ever cross country race, now let's get faster! The 8th graders also competed in the 2-mile JV race, and were paced by Max Marion and Samantha Cameron, respectively. Thanks also to all of the parents for their attendance, support, and flexibility on Tuesday! On Saturday, the Wildcats traveled to Berry College in Rome, GA for the Clara Bowl Invitational, one of the big early season events on the Georgia cross country calendar. Similar to last year, the girls faced some tough competition in the 5A-6A Girls Varsity event, but raced to a 3rd place finish (out of 33 teams), and were the first 5A team across the line. The girls performance was highlighted by Ann-Marie Sills, who took more than 2 minutes off of her time from last year's Clara Bowl meet. The strength of the Wildcats on this day, however was the 4-5-6 finishes of Ellie Conoley, team captain Jennifer Hardister, and team captain Elizabeth Hardister, which contributed greatly to the Wildcats promising finish. The boys followed up with a great early season performance as well, finishing 21st out of 35 teams in the 5A-6A event. Similar to the girls, many of the boys improved upon their times from last year by a large margin, including Cadmiel Velazquez, team captain Noah Goldstein, and team captain Quinton Johnson. We are excited and encouraged about some of the improvements the boys team can make throughout the season. Full race results can be found at: http://ga.milesplit.com/meets/138712-berry-college-clara-bowl-invitational#.UiMvhr-IolI This week, there are two team events on the calendar. On Thursday, we will have our annual Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night at Perimeter Pointe from 5-8 PM. This is one of our most successful fundraisers every year, so please plan on eating with us (and bringing your friends and family) on Thursday, as a portion of sales during these hours will be donated to the Wildcat XC Booster Club. Plan to be entertained by the nugget eating contest and milkshake drinking contest! Which class will prevail? We'll have to wait until Thursday night to see! Hope to see many of you there! On Saturday, the Wildcats will stay close to home to travel to the Marist Double Dip Invitational. Each team will field a Varsity squad (7 runners) and a JV squad (10 runners). There will be no bus to this meet, so students and athletes must get to the meet on their own. A list of the who is running in this race and more information regarding this meet will be announced in practice on Wednesday, and posted on the website soon thereafter. There is no practice on Monday, so we will see all of the runners on Tuesday afternoon for practice. Go Wildcats!" |
