JV Wildcats Take 1

Congratulations to the Dunwoody Boys and Girls JV Cross Country Teams for outstanding performances at the Dekalb County Championships September 28th at Druid Hills Middle School.  The girls team started off the day finishing runner up as a team with 54 points to a strong Lakeside team.  The girls were led by Claire P (5th), Sarah R (7th), Chelsea E (13th), Marina V (14th), Mary McClean E (15th), Lauren C (19th), and Maya S (28th).  Thanks to our alternates, Madison W, Magen P, and Caitlin D for being ready.  The boys followed up that race bringing home the championship trophy.  The boys finished with 5 in the top 10.  Conner R (3rd), Carson B (4th), Matt B (5th), Jack W (8th), Aidan C (10th), Owen G (12th), and Jack A (20th) led to Dunwoody scoring 30 points to win the race.  Thanks to our alternates Nick B, Carter M, and Jacob D.  Congratulations JV Wildcats!  Good Luck to the Varsity Team this Tuesday as they compete in the Dekalb County Varsity Championships.

The Championship Roster was posted today.  At this point, anyone not on the championship roster is free to begin training for their other sport.  Or they are welcome to continue training with the team with the coaches' permission and knowing they will not have the opportunity to race again this season.   If they participate in local 5k races such as the PCMS CV classic, they may NOT wear their DHS uniform.

Likewise, all student athletes should plan on joining the Cross Country Team on October 12th for the Homecoming Parade and later in November for the DHS XC Awards Ceremony.

Wildcats Tackle the Hay Bales of the ATC Wingfoot Classic

9/23/2017

The Running Wildcats tackled the hay bales at the Atlanta Track Club Wingfoot Classic this past weekend.  Perfect racing conditions and a flat, fast course led to many personal records by the runners in the Championship Division for both the girls and boys teams.  Thanks to the ATC and our very own Coach Charlotte for helping to put on such an eXCellent event!  The Wildcats are looking to take this momentum from Saturday's race into the Championship Season.  Complete results can be found at

Looking ahead -
Fall Sports Picture Day is Wednesday September 27th at 5:00pm.  Athletes need to wear their RED XC shirt with the NAVY BLUE uniform shorts.  We will have practice from 3:30pm to 5:00pm prior to pictures.  Practice will go a little longer on Wednesday.

Championship Team Roster - It is that time of the season when the Championship Team Roster is announced.  From here on out, we can no longer take our entire team to meets.  Hence, we will name about 20-25 students on Friday of this week.  Anybody not named to the Championship Team Roster is welcome to continue to practice with the team.  However, they will not race in any more meets this season and practice will be geared towards those athletes on the Championship Roster.

This Thursday (Sept 28th) is the JV Dekalb County Championships.  The bus will leave from the gym at 3:30pm.  The girls race at 5:15pm and the boys race at 5:45pm at Druid Hills Middle School in a 2 mile race designed only for 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students.  We can race 7 athletes in each race - who will be announced at practice on Tuesday.  All other athletes should ride the bus to cheer them on.

The Wildcats will not race this weekend; but then will continue their Championship season on Tuesday October 3rd again at Druid Hills Middle School for the Varsity Dekalb County Championships.  The bus will again leave from the gym at 3:30pm with the girls race at 5:15pm and the boys race at 5:45pm.  This will be the standard 5k length for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders.  Again, we can race 7 athletes in each race.  Students will need to talk with their 4th period teacher to be dismissed from class at 3:10pm to be on the bus by 3:30pm due to the extended day.  EDIT----DUE TO THE EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY, THE VARSITY COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE TIMES HAVE BEEN MOVED TO 5:45PM AND 6:15PM.  THE BUS WILL STILL LEAVE DHS AT 3:30PM.

GO WILDCATS!!!!!

Coach's Corner September 17, 2017

9/17/2017

Congratulations to the teams on some fantastic races at our Overnight Trip this season at the Spain Park Cross Country Festival.  The Varsity Boys finished 6th overall led by Max M in 7th place.  The Varsity Girls finished 5th overall led by Samantha C in 6th place and Kelly May S in 16th place.  The JV Boys finished 7th overall led by Elijah D in 13th place; and the JV Girls finished 5th overall led by Rachel S in 10th place.  Congratulations to all the racers - many of whom PR'd on a difficult course that formerly hosted the Great American Cross Country Festival and features an uphill that resembles a rock climbing wall.  Most importantly, we hope that every runner had a great time racing against some of the best in Alabama and participating in one of the most heated trivia games in the history of DHS XC Overnight Trips.  The game was so intense that even the neighboring reunion members wanted to play!  The coaches would especially like to thank the students for being responsible young adults and making the trip so enjoyable.  In addition, a special thanks to Mr Dill for all his hard work in making the trip happen, and Mr and Mrs Mowrer for supervising the trip.  Thanks to all the parents that made the long drive to support the Wildcats; as well as the Lowy Grandparents for their loud cheering; and the other Mr Hendrickson for the Post Race Donut Feast!

This week will be a busy one for the Wildcats - racing Tuesday at the final regular season meet at Druid Hills Middle School and Saturday at the ATC Wingfoot Classic.  Every runner on the team (with the exception of our top Varsity runners) will race Tuesday at Druid Hills Middle School.  The bus will leave from the DHS gym at 3:30pm on Tuesday.  This will be the last chance for many students to race, so the coaches encourage everyone to race.   On Saturday, the Wildcats will head to the ATC Wingfoot Race, where we can run 7 in the varsity race and 12 in the JV race.  Those racers will be announced Wednesday at practice after the final regular season meet at Druid Hills.  More information about that race will follow, after the ATC assigns what races Dunwoody will run during that meet.

The coaches would like to thank all the students and parents for their patience this past week as the area prepared for and recovered from Hurricane Irma.  Hope everyone stayed safe.  We are looking forward to resuming our regular schedule this week.

This upcoming week will be short, as practice is cancelled Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday.  We will practice only Thurs afternoon - before heading out on our overnight trip to the Spain Park Cross Country Invitational.  There will be NO Friday morning practice this week.  The bus to Spain Park will leave Friday afternoon at 1pm from the DHS Gym.  Any student with D lunch should make sure they pack a sack lunch.  All students need to talk with their 3rd and 4th period teachers to get their assignments ahead of time.   Students going on the trip can store their overnight bags in room 1702 on Friday morning.  We will travel straight to the course, where we will run the course, do some drills, and be led through a Yoga session.  We will then head to the hotel, have a pasta dinner, and enjoy some DHS Cross Country trivia before hitting the sack.  Breakfast will be provided the next morning, before heading out to the race.  The Varsity Girls race at 8:15am and the Varsity Boys race at 8:45am followed by JV Girls at 9:15am and JV Boys at 9:45am.  We will stop for lunch on the way back to DHS; and also lose an hour - but should return to school around 3pm.  The Wildcats are excited to race against Alabama's best teams!
