The Boys Varsity race started the day and the Wildcats were led by Cadmiel Velazquez, who had his best race of the season and finished 10th, and was followed right behind by Blake Tiede, who showed tremendous grit during his race. The boys team finished 3rd behind Clarkston and Druid Hills, which qualifies them for the State Championship meet at Carrollton MS in Carrollton, GA on November 8th!
The Girls Varsity race followed, and allowed for some of our hardworking runners to get the spotlight and send their team to the State Meet. The Wildcats successfully defended their Region title, winning the title for the third year in a row! Six Wildcats placed in the top 10 of the race, led by the group of Ally Womble, Ellie Conoley, and Shanel Stewart. The Wildcats will look to get back on the podium in two weeks at the State Championship.
The real stars of the day, however, were the JV runners, most who were racing for the last time of the season (and some for the last time in their career!). The Boys JV race was led by Jerett Lupoli, who had one of his best races of the season. Other great performances were turned in by Ben Bass, Will Bass, Davis Apseloff, and Gabe Hoffman.
The Girls JV race showed the depth of the Wildcats and that the future is bright! The race was won by Sophia Tarrago, followed by Sydney Drew, who has battled injuries this season but luckily has another year with the team. Great improvements were made by a lot of runners, including Julia Echols, Alex Parrish, Katie Kaminsky, and Ariella Tsfoni.
Thank you to all of the parents who helped out during this meet, it was greatly appreciated and much needed. We had more parent volunteers than we needed, which is a good problem to have! It was great to see support for all of our runners on Saturday. Thanks also to Coach Rick Barbe of Lakeside High School (as well as Lakeside HS parents) who helped with course setup and course monitoring.
Varsity results from Saturday's results can be found here. JV results, as well as all times from the season, can be found in the following two documents. Check out all of the season bests from Saturday's meet, it's quite impressive!
