The Wildcats started off their Championship Season with a bang this week, including their first workout at Blackburn Park on Wednesday for the Varsity team. The real highlight of the week, however, was the DeKalb County JV Championships on Thursday at Druid Hills Middle School.
The girls led off the day by defeating Lakeside 19-37 for their fifth straight County JV Championship! The Wildcats were led by JV County Champion Chloe Thomas, who was followed closely by teammates Julie Hensley and Kate Marion to sweep the top 3 places in the meet. The team also saw great performances from Kate Hudson, Meghan Johnson, Lauren Caplan, and Maddie Tapp. Way to keep the winning tradition for the girls program going!

Next, it was the boys turn to try to match the girls success. The boys did not disappoint, defeating 5-time defending champion Lakeside 21-53. The boys were led by a dominating performance from JV County Champion Max Mowrer, and, just as in the girls race, was followed by teammates Sam Mahle and Max Marion to sweep the top 3 places in the meet. The winning team was rounded out by gutsy performances from Phineas Haq, Sasha Herod, Ben Bass, and Andrew Rice. This was the first boys team championship since 2009 and the first time EVER that Dunwoody has swept both of the JV County Championships! Thanks to all other teammates and parents who were there to witness history on Thursday! Full race results can be found here, and a story on the DeKalb County website on the races can be found here.
This Week:
It's a busy week for the Wildcats, as the Varsity teams get their chance at Druid Hills Middle School on Tuesday for the DeKalb County Varsity Championships. Rosters were announced for this in last week's 'Coaches' Corner.' On Saturday, many of the Wildcats will travel to Douglasville to run in the Alexander Asics Invitational at Fox Hall Sporting Club. Rosters for this meet will be announced mid-week, along with bus departure times and race times.
One practice note: We will have a run-on-your-own day on Friday, since the teachers have a Professional Development Day and the athletes do not have school!
This week was a great start to our Championship portion of our season, and we hope to carry the momentum over the next month!
Thanks for your support of Dunwoody XC, and Go Wildcats!
