Thank you for your patience and flexibility. The safety of our DHS XC family is of the utmost importance! The following is subject to change at any time to keep all of our DHS XC family safe. Please read in its entirety and contact a coach if you have any questions or need additional information. Unlike in year’s past, we will not be able to work face to face with every athlete.
Virtual Conditioning -
At the current time, students should continue to condition on their own at their own risk under the supervision and safety of their parents/guardians following all CDC guidelines. Sample workouts will be posted on the website intended for those students with a good summer base mileage that have completed and uploaded all required paperwork. Students should feel free to check in with a coach via email with updates on their running.
Face to Face Training -
When it is safe to do so, the coaches will select 7-12 male and 7-12 female runners to begin face to face training on the DHS campus. The selection will be based upon Year in School, Years on the Team, Positive Attitude/Work Ethic, and 3200m Track Time Trial from those that complete the attached application. All students not selected for Face to Face Training can continue their Virtual Conditioning at their own risk on their own off campus under the supervision and safety of their parents/guardians following all CDC guidelines. All applications for Face to Face Training are due by Aug 15 to Coach Hendrickson.
Once Face to Face Training begins, students will have to abide by the following conditions:
-Student Supplied Face Covering must be worn at all times from when the student arrives on campus to when they leave campus. (unless approved by a coach)
-Social Distancing of a minimum of 6 feet must occur at all times.
-Students will remain on campus for the entirety of the workout and must leave campus immediately after the workout.
-Students must bring their own water bottle (labeled) and a towel. No water coolers will be provided. Under no circumstances should water bottles, towels, and other individual equipment be shared.
-Temperature checks will be conducted prior to practice, and hand sanitizer will be available.
Any violation of safety protocol will lead to immediate dismissal from team and could lead to the team being shut down for the season. Remember, you have to be your best you both during practice and outside of practice to ensure everyone’s safety.
Students must complete all the necessary paperwork to participate in Dekalb Athletics, found on the website. This year, all paperwork will be uploaded via dragonflymax.com and can be used for Fall, Winter, and Spring Sports.
-Preparticipation Physical Form
-Concussion Form
-Sudden Cardiac Awareness Form
-Proof of Valid Insurance
-Covid-19 Waiver
Senior Captains
Any senior interested in serving as a captain this season (whether virtual or face to face) should write a brief essay and email it to Coach Hendrickson by August 14th.
This season will be very different from year’s past. There will be no Overnight Trip, and the racing schedule will be drastically reduced. Very few if any Invitational Meets will be attended, and the focus will be on training for the Region Meet in late October. No Booster Club Dues will be collected. Instead, students, parents, and all others are invited to purchase the 2020 XC T-shirt, car magnets, and other spirit wear from the website to proudly promote our team and sport.
Thank you in advance for all your support, patience, and flexibility. As always, please contact a coach if you have any questions or need additional information.
Go Wildcats!
Sincerely,
Coach Hendrickson, Coach Jordan, Coach Zimmerman, and Coach Eliot
