Homecoming Week 2013 brought another busy week for the Wildcats! On Tuesday, the Wildcats traveled back to Druid Hills MS for their third DeKalb County meet of the season. Cooler weather brought faster times for most of the team, and most of the Varsity and JV Championship athletes got another look at the course that will play a big part in the team’s successes over the next couple of weeks! Great performances could be found from beginning to end of the mass of Wildcat runners, highlighted by great races from Brandon Shockley and Sunny Sharma on the boys side, and Alyssa Farnell and Jordan Srochi on the girls side.
After a wet run on Wednesday (and the return of the “Snake” route), the Wildcats marched in the annual DHS Homecoming Parade on Thursday, and were back at it Friday morning for another great morning workout. Thanks to Mrs. Herod for volunteering her truck for use in the parade!
This week brings two meets for different groups of athletes. On Thursday, the top 8th-10th graders on the team will travel to Druid Hills MS for the DeKalb County Junior Varsity Championships (the list of those participating has already been announced and can be found on the website). The Wildcats have a great tradition of success in this 2-mile competition, and are looking forward to a great showing in 2013!
On Friday, the Varsity teams will depart DHS at 11:30 AM to travel to Cary, NC to participate in the Great American XC Festival on Saturday. This is one of the biggest meets on the East Coast, and will be a great experience for our Varsity runners against some elite competition.
Because of these two meets, there will only be practice this week from Monday to Wednesday, with NO practice Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.
As the weather continues to cool down, we look forward to seeing our runners get faster and faster! Go Wildcats!
