2018 Dunwoody Cross Country

Coach's Corner

10/6/2013

It was another busy week for the Wildcats this week, with two big time races for the team to show how they are progressing and preparing for the last stretch of the season.  On Thursday, the top 8th through 10th graders on the team competed in one of our favorite meets of the season, the DeKalb County JV Championships at Druid Hills Middle School.  The girls led off with a dominating performance, by placing all 7 of our runners in the top 11 of the race, besting Lakeside by a score of 20 to 77 to take home the Championship!  Samantha Cameron led the way with a first place performance, and was followed closely behind by Kelly May Sheehan, Ally Womble, Sydney Drew, Julie Hensley, Chloe Thomas, and Olivia Vergura. Tremendous work by all!

The boys followed up by having great races to take home runner up honors in a very competitive race.  They were led by Jackson Watson, who finished 3rd overall.  He was followed closely behind by Max Marion, Jerrett Lupoli, Ethan Herod, Paul Weinshenker, Ben Planer, and Samuel Lucius.  Both Wildcats teams continued our great tradition of success in this race, and showed once again that the future is bright for Dunwoody XC!

On Friday, the Varsity teams traveled north to Cary, NC to participate in the Great American Cross Country Festival.  This is one of the most competitive meets on the East Coast and features teams from Rhode Island down to Florida.  The boys rose early on Saturday to participate in the Red Race, finishing 12th out of 17 teams.  They were led by strong
performances from Blake Tiede, Quinton Johnson, and Benson Ross.  As the day warmed up quickly, the girls team stepped to the line to participate in the Seeded Race, finishing 9th out of 15 teams in a very competitive field.  The girls were led by medal winners Alex Cameron (9th) and Ansley Heavern (18th), and also saw great races from Ellie Conoley and Sydney
Drew.  Special thanks to our chaperones on this long trip, Don Dill and Kevin and Deb Cameron.  This is an experience that will help both teams prepare for their championship meets over the next month.

Speaking of championship meets, the Varsity teams do not have much time to
rest, as they jump back into action this coming Tuesday to participate in
the DeKalb County Varsity Championships at Druid Hills Middle School.
Because of this meet, there will be NO practice on Tuesday (the rest of
the week will have practice at regularly scheduled times).  After Tuesday,
the Wildcats will get a rest until our next meet on October 19th at the
Coach Wood Invitational in Gainesville.  Race rosters for that meet will
be announced toward the end of this week or early next week.

Thanks for your support, and Go Wildcats!
