Lady Wildcats Take 18th at the GHSA State Championship Meet
Congratulations to the Lady Wildcats who ran fantastic races this past weekend and finished 18th as a team at the GHSA State Meet in Carrollton, GA! Following an early Friday morning race prep workout, a day of virtual learning, and an athlete dinner, the team met at Carrollton early Saturday morning prepared mentally and physically for the race. Dry, warm weather was predicted for the state meet, and it turned out to be perfect racing weather - raining and cold. The Wildcats warmed up their legs and checked out the 2-lap course. Then came back to the tent to pin their numbers, tie on their chips, and eat their favorite pre-race snack. The Wildcats walked to the line, checked in, and switched on their game faces. They were ready! And they were off! The girls had a fantastic start with Claire and Kate in the lead early. In a true battle in the new AAAAAAA classification, the girls faced a very talented field of experienced runners. But the Wildcats did not back down. They had trained for all parts of the race, and it showed. The runners powered up the hills, floated down the other side, and drove through the flats. Freshman Claire S finished 4th overall amongst some of the best runners in the state, followed by Junior Kate B (51st overall). The Dunwoody Pack of Seniors Emma T and Cici R finished 117th and 118th. Sophomore Emma P, Senior Ahna L, and Junior Lucy N were close behind for a team total of 402 points and an 18th place team finish at STATE! Congratulations!! We can’t tell you how lucky we are to be a part of such an amazing Wildcat Family. This season brought about many challenges and sacrifices that only strengthened the team. Our senior leaders of Ahna L, Emma T, Cici R, Madison W, Danielle A, and Mia W were instrumental in making this season such a success. Your dedication and contributions to this team for the past 4-5 years are unmeasurable. Thank you to all our runners who have done so much to keep the team safe. This season would not be possible without our amazing parents who have supported us through conditioning, practices, meets, and everything else. And the coaching staff that somehow make it fun to wake up at 6am! Congratulations to all this season. Whether you trained with us virtually, face to face, or took a season off, you are and will always be a part of the DHS XC Family. Continue to make running a lifelong sport and stay healthy both physically and mentally. Stay Safe, Stay Strong, Stay Flexible! Go Wildcats!! |
